In 2025 Direct obÌåÓý will offer to import three new pieces of information from the IRS.
Biographical information, like name and address, Identity protection or IP PIN, and Form W-2.
Let¡¯s check it out.
When I first start a new tax return, Direct obÌåÓý offers to fill in basic information, like my name and address.
If any of it has changed, I can easily correct it with the Edit Feature.
Jumping forward¡ an Identity protection or IP Pin prevents someone else from filing a tax return, using my Social Security number.
¡and now Direct obÌåÓý automatically checks whether I¡¯m protected by an IP PIN, making this additional layer of security seamless and easy for taxpayers.
Finally, when it comes time to tell Direct obÌåÓý about my income, I can see tax forms that my employer has shared with the IRS.
I can review the information and choose which W-2s to import.
The choice is mine and I always have the option to manually enter my information.
In this first iteration, I will still need to have a copy of my W-2 on hand, and Direct obÌåÓý will ask me about the information in Boxes 12, 14 and 15 thru 20.
Again, this is just the first step of integrating data import into the Direct obÌåÓý experience.
